NCYH Junior Eagles offer a competitive or travel hockey program. Teams are fielded at every age group for Squirts* (U-10 / Birth Years 2008-2009); Pee Wees* (U-12 / Birth Years 2006-2007); Bantams* (U-14 / Birth Years 2004-2005); Midget Minors* (U-16 / Birth Years 2002-2003); and Midget Club (U-18 / Birth Years 2000-2001). Anyone interested in participating on a competitive team should be fundamentally sound and know how to skate, pass, and shoot.
NCYH holds tryouts for all ages prior to the season in order to give the coaches a chance to pick their teams. Players are selected on skill and hockey knowledge, with the best players being selected to the top team in each particular age group. Once placed on a team players are expected to participate in all team functions.
All of our travel teams typically practice 3-4 times a week on ice as well as an optional off-ice training at least once a week. All of the competitive teams play in the Colorado Competitive Youth Hockey League (CCYHL). The CCYHL consists of organizations along the Front Range from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs. Every team can expect to play roughly 20 games depending on the number of teams fielded at each division.
Along with playing regular season games in the CCYHL players can expect to participate in 4 to 5 tournaments with 1 or 2 of those tournaments requiring travel out of the state. By agreeing to participate on a competitive team players agree to attend all tournaments that the team chooses to participate in.
Participation on a competitive team takes a great deal of dedication and commitment. Those families that plan on participating on a competitive team with the NCYH Junior Eagles can expect to be at a hockey rink 4 to 5 times a week throughout the course of the hockey season.
